The Summer of Rohan

Section 1.0

It begins

Let's get this show on the road

The Summer of Rohan is well and truly underway. I went on holiday immediately after stopping work to LA and Japan for 3 weeks all up. This was a great trip, but didn’t feel any different to taking a usual 2ish week overseas holiday at the end of a work year.

I am back in Sydney now, and the sabbatical feeling is really starting to kick in. Week 1 was quite tame - my goal was to break the back of the apartment tidying (throwing things and relocating things for storage at my parents’ place). This was successful, and now I’ve really started the Sabbatical.

There hasn’t been a profound feeling of relaxation yet, as I am naturally doing SO many things at once. Researching baby capex procurement (prams, carseats), thinking about childcare and reserving a place, doing physio to improve my knee function, going to the podiatrist to get updated orthotics for my flat feet, doing taiji practice in preparation for the upcoming workshop with Adam Mizner in Melbourne, started to practice meditation (focussing on seated form), general apartment upgrades - dealing with air conditioning contractors and researching into that so I don’t get fleeced.

Yesterday it occurred to me that I’ve been doing the opposite of relaxing and having fun thus far, and so I downloaded Baldur’s Gate 3 which has been on my sabbatical list of games to hit. I’ve never played a dnd RPG so the learning curve is steep, but I really want to get at least one playthrough of a game of that genre under my belt so I can better understand what the fuss is about. The first play session went well - successfully passed the intro mission. More to come as the sabbatical unfolds, including more coverage of the lead up to the sabbatical and how it’s been enabled.
